It isn't the jazziest spot in the Twin Cities. You can't order a cocktail or find fusion dishes on the menu, but it is one of the busiest new restaurants in town. It is the Quang Restaurant on Nicollet Avenue's Eat Street in Minneapolis's historic Whittier neighborhood. When the Quang deli moved out of the food market near 28th and Nicollet to a revamped building across the street, it brought with it a group of fans already addicted to its freshly made foods. Along with traditional Vietnamese dishes, Quang also makes submarine sandwiches for take-out. (One family with five hungry youngsters purchased a sub on their way to a table, split it among the young ones and kept everyone quiet and happy until lunch was served.) What attracts this loyal following is a menu of well-made noodle soups, salads and other Vietnamese favorites served in large portions at very reasonable prices. The new facility has two walls of windows making it light, airy and very friendly. With plenty of large tables to accommodate families and groups of six or eight and free parking in the lot next door, Quang serves a steady stream of customers all day long. There are special offerings on weekends including periwinkles and other seafood dishes. Quang is open everyday except Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 2719 Nicollet Avenue S. in Minneapolis. Warm weather is bringing in a variety of homegrown spring produce along with bedding plants, hanging baskets and handcrafted items. Even imported produce is in a abundance with prices less than most supermarkets.
